INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT
These are the organizations and individuals who have partnered with Teatro Nuevo México to support our mission!
The National Hispanic Cultural Center
The National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is dedicated to the study, advancement, and presentation of Hispanic culture, arts, and humanities. Since its grand opening in 2000, the NHCC has staged over 20 art exhibitions and 400 programs in the visual, performing, and literary arts. Programs have featured local, national and international artists, scholars and entertainers. The NHCC provides venues for visitors to learn about Hispanic culture throughout the world.
In TNM's first season, NHCC provided its Wells Fargo lecture hall as a black box theater to stage 3 of the company's productions. Since then the Center has partnered with TNM to stage two Zarzuelas as well as Anna in the Tropics by Nilo Cruz. Finishing out TNM's 2006 season, NHCC will present TNM's Zarzuela Cabaret, (concert of Zarzuela favorites) and in September, 2006, The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit , by Ray Bradbury.
TNM and the NHCC are currently developing plans for a Zarzuela Institute, to educate and train New Mexicans of all ages to both appreciate and perform this beautiful musical form. The purpose of this institute is to grow the capacities of New Mexico singers to sing and act in Spanish.
The McCune Foundation
The mission of the McCune Foundation is to enable communities and nonprofit institutions to improve the quality and circumstances of life for present and future generations. In meeting these challenges, the Foundation employs flexible approaches and innovative strategies that are responsive to changing needs and new opportunities. The goal is to stimulate long-lasting and sustainable progress which contributes to community vitality and economic growth.
After reviewing Teatro Nuevo México and our work, the McCune Foundation has seen fit to grant the company funds to underwrite a 5 year strategic plan, obtain a 501-c-3 certification from the IRS, develop a Website and institute professional financial record keeping systems to manage grants, contract and box office revenues.
Sierra Development Corporation
After operating for two years out of board members homes, in 2005 TNM moved into a new office on Bryn Mawr provided pro-bono by Sierra Development Corporation. The space has been utilized for Company meetings, staged readings and receptions and comes complete with access to fax, copy machines and internet connections.
The City of Albuquerque TriCentennial Committee
To celebrate the 300 th anniversary of the founding of the City of Albuquerque on April 23 rd , 2006 , city planners organized the TriCentennial Committee, whose mission it is to present the dazzling array of New Mexican cultural and artistic traditions to the world during the course of the entire year. By working with artists and businesses of every stripe, the Committee is presenting Albuquerque 's unique cultural heritage via performances, art installations, and many other media to natives and tourists alike.
In the summer of 2006, the Committee commissioned Teatro Nuevo México to produce two concerts featuring the music of zarzuela, (a Spanish light opera genre) as well as traditional and contemporary New Mexican music. These performances brought together TNM performers, guest artists from both the classical and folkloric worlds, and children of all ages from local schools. Performed at the venerable KiMo Theatre and the Albuquerque Museum 's new amphitheater, these two shows were extremely well received by Albuquerque audiences.
The Patty Disney Zarzuela Series at the National Hispanic Cultural Center
The philanthropy of Roy E. Disney and his wife Patty is well-documented around the globe. Medical centers, concert halls, shelters and many others have been the recipient of their generosity. Without their support, the Performing Arts facility at the National Hispanic Cultural Center would never have been finished, which is why it bears the name of The Roy E. Disney Center for Performing Arts.
In the fall of 2004, Roy and Patty Disney witnessed the results of a partnership between Teatro Nuevo México and the National Hispanic Cultural Center: a production of Luisa Fernanda, the first full scale zarzuela staged in New Mexico for decades. Ms. Disney was so pleased with the results that she established a fund for the Patty Disney Zarzuela Series which will underwrite a five-year commitment to produce two zarzuela performances a year; one full opera, and a musical performance showcasing the music and cultural forms of this unique tradition.
Expressions of support from local businesses, non profits and individuals
“…I was very impressed by the talent you assembled for this program, as it was New York professional. I believe this is appropriate for the Hispanic Cultural Center , and I hope you can keep your standards high in future productions. We look forward to your next production.”

“…I am happy to write in support of Teatro Nuevo México, Albuquerque 's only Latino theatre company. It has been the pleasure of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra to collaborate for the past two years with Teatro Nuevo México in productions of two different zarzuelas.
I can say that the productions are of a very high, professional quality in all respects. The conductor is an internationally respected authority in zarzuela, and the casts, costumes, and sets have all been first class. The stage direction has been creative, colorful and highly effective. The management of the company has proven to be completely organized and – I will use this word as my highest compliment – professional.”
K. Hagen
Executive Director
The New Mexico Symphony Orchestra
“…Everything about the production was professional, from your lovingly executed direction, exquisite sets, immensely talented symphony musicians, to the gifted actors. TNM's production was a delight; both humorous and touching… we look forward to many more quality productions.”
M. & G. Keenan
Precision Masonry Corp.
“…The music was beautiful and the professionalism of the entire production was exciting. La del Manojo de Rosas gave me that bursting feeling that comes from being moved by talent and the dedication and hard work it takes to create something so ephemeral and yet so lovely and satisfying. It reminded me that I love theater and opera and why… can't wait for the next one.”
