About Us

José Apodaca has had an extensive career in singing spanning 35 years. He has performed with Young Americans in Concert, in performances in the US and Europe including Carnegie Hall, Constitution Hall, the White House, and major concert halls in Europe. He also toured the USA, Africa, and Europe as a member of Up With People. Apodaca's operatic roles with New Mexico regional opera companies have included "The Marriage of Figaro," "The Magic Flute," "The Merry Wives of Windsor," "Carmen," and "Ahmahl and the Night Visitors". He has performed extensively in zarzuela including roles in "En las Astas del Toro," "La Verbena de la Paloma," "El Barberillo de Lavapiés," "La Revoltosa," and Vidal in "Luisa Fernanda." He was heard regularly in the Chamizal Zarzuela Festival in El Paso, Texas. He has performed extensively with Musica Romantica singing anthologies of zarzuelas. During the year 2005, he has been part of the Albuquerque Tricentennial celebrations performing zarzuelas and boleros with Música Romantic at the Albuquerque Museum and the KIMO theater. Apodaca has been the recipient of numerous awards including Fulbright Finalist to Spain, New Mexico Arts Division, University of New Mexico Graduate fellowships in music, Spanish Embassy grants in music, and the prestigeous New Mexico Golden Apple Teaching award in 2004.

Salomé Martínez-Lutz has been in theatre for thirty-seven years. She has an M. A. degree in Theatre Arts from UNM, and a B.A. in Theatre Education and Voice from the College of Santa Fe . She is a graduate of the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera Workshop and she attended the Graduate Extension Division of the Juilliard School of Music in New York . Salome debuted a classical program at Carnegie Recital Hall and subsequently was invited to sing at Lincoln Center 's Avery Fisher Hall and Alice Tulley Hall. She worked as a principal singer/actor for five years with New York 's Obie Award Winner, Repertorio Espanol , under the direction of Rene Buch and Conductor, Maestro Pablo Zinger. She has been recognized in national magazines and newspapers: DanceMagazine, The New York Magazine, Vista , The New York Times, La Voz Hispana (NYC), La Voz Hispana Miami (nominated for Best Singer/Actor in a La Parranda, a zarzuela (Spanish Opera), and in the publication of the Association of Hispanic Arts (AHA) in New York for her work in La Generala . She is a member of Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (AFTRA) and a member of Actor's Equity Association (AEA). She has directed all levels of educational theatre (elementary, secondary, university) as well as community theatre. As a playwright, she has written three bilingual full-length plays (Estoy en el Rincon, Mi Barrio Primero and Cuentame el Cuento Mama). Her plays have been perform locally, in Texas and in Guadalajara , Jalisco , Mexico at the Jaime Torres Bodet Theatre. She received the De Colores Leadership Award in Theatre Arts; the MANA de Albuquerque Award for Outstanding Hispanic Woman in the Arts; United Nations Medallion for Contributions to Cultural Exchanges, the National Readers Digest Award for Cultural Exchange as Playwright. As an educator, she has received six Teacher of the Year Awards, as well as a Blue Ribbon Teacher Award from the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce. Salomé is married to Gregory W. Lutz, who is very supportive of her theatre projects, and is an on-going “Angel” with Teatro Nuevo México.
